Frequently Asked Questions

Have more questions? Contact Us!
What causes deck boards to warp or crack?

Moisture, UV exposure, and improper installation are common causes. Proper sealing & installation is key.

What’s the best railing option for my deck?

Popular options include wood, composite, glass, cable, and metal. The choice depends on your budget.

What are common types of deck materials?

Common materials include pressure-treated wood, cedar, composite, & vinyl. Each has unique pros and cons.

If you would like to discuss which material would be best for your project, reach out to us today!

What are some benefits of choosing a composite deck over a cedar or pressure treated deck?

Composite decking is a decking material that comes in a wide variety of colors, textures, and costs. It can range from $3/sq. ft. all the way up to $8/sq. ft., depending on the product.

Almost all brands come with at least a 25-year warranty and, of course, will never rot. There is no maintenance required besides a quick rinse with the hose when it becomes dirty.

Why is my deck framing rotted?

It all has to do with water. Being that we are living in a rainforest, water is the #1 killer of decks. Water needs a place to escape; otherwise, if it gets trapped, it can be an early life ender for your deck.

With RPFD, we flash all our beams and joists prior to installing any deck boards. This will ensure no standing water is trapped and can escape as it should.

How to extend the life of my fence?

Treat your fence every 2–3 years with a fresh coat of stain or paint. Also, clear any organic material around your posts to prevent rot and decay.

Why is my fence leaning or fallen over?

It usually means that when your fence was built, the post holes weren’t dug to an adequate depth for that post to support the lateral movement of your fence.

At Rocky Point Fence and Deck, we dig our posts to a depth that ensures your fence’s stability.

Why are my fence posts all snapped?

Fence posts tend to break at the base over the years. Soil, leaves, and all organic matter will cover the base of your posts, causing them to slowly decompose to the point of failure. Keeping it clear will prevent this and extend the life of your fence.
